vent & lament

Can I just vent a sec?

Am I the only one whose purse reeks of tuna fish & peanut butter & jelly sammies? Am I the only one with goldfish cracker crumbs in every crevice of my pocketbook? Is there a large, unsightly wet spot on your bag from lugging around cold drinks? If you answered yes to any of these, it must mean that you, too, went to the movies recently and refused to pay those astronomical prices (it could also just mean you're a mother of several small children like I am!).

We were lucky enough to go at 1 p.m. (Hubby went with us since he was, A-HEM, unable to go to work today), so we got cheap early-bird tickets ($4 each). But drinks, popcorn, hot dogs, etc. are so ridiculously overpriced I can't stand it. So I plan ahead. We did splurge on some popcorn because that is the highlight of any trip to the movies, at least as far as the girls are concerned. But the rest? I packed it up in my purse. Sandwiches, Diet Coke for Hubby, water for me, Capri Sun Roarin' Waters for the girls. Some goldfish and napkins. My purse weighed a ton and I was afraid people would think my armpits smelled of tuna, not my purse.

Do you pack your own snacks when you go to the movies? We don't go very often, but I still can't justify it. I'm sure there will come a day when my children are quite embarrassed by this sort of thing, but until then, I'm going to have a purse that reeks of tuna fish sandwiches.

My ex always had us do that, but that was because of the whole kosher thing, and I have yet to see a kosher movie theater! I just buy it...for me that's half the fun of seeing the movie!

I had a roommate who would take a whole shopping bag full of food for herself and 2 kids. Sometimes we take our own candy. You can get the movie sized candy for $1 at the store. That isn't too hard to stuff in my purse. I have been known to bring a water bottle for myself, too.

I spent so much $ at the double feature over the weekend. It was ridiculous. (They got snacks for before the movie and at intermission.)I told the boys it was the most expensive date I'd been on in a long time.

No. As appealing as the idea is in theory, I am simply too lazy to pack anything.I do try to go shortly after lunch if possible, so that they are not starved when they get there.

Oh honey...we need to get you a tote for the tuna sammies. NO TUNA in the handbag.

And no goldfish has ever seen the inside of my handbag either. LOL.
No, you are not the only one, but my handbag is where I draw the line.

I should have clarified---it wasn't really a "purse" or a "pocketbook," per se; it was more like a hobo from Target. Otherwise I never would have put tuna in it.

I always take lollies (candy!) and water but buy popcorn - like you say it is part of the movie experience!

We pack stuff too. Water for me and the kids, soda for the hubby, grapes and fruit and snacks and such but never sandwiches, lol. What a nice mom you are!! Although my child will not eat sandwiches, If she did, I'm sure I'd happily pack them!

Our oldest son works at a movie theatre which has meant FREE movies, popcorn and pop for our whole family the last two years, so I can't complain, can I?

However, I also know that the teenagers working at the theatre don't give a rat's ass what you bring in. They make minimum wage either way!

I bring drinks, but I do buy popcorn for the kids... They just love it, plus it helps keep them busy during the movie.
