Deb over at Menopausal New Mom and I have been getting our GREEN on a lot lately, and Deb decided we should make our features a semi-regular thing. Lee of Road Trips For Wine and Observe and Distort was kind enough to design this cute little button just for us. So from now on whenever you see it, you'll know a product, idea, or company, etc. has our official Green Stamp of Approval and you can trust that we've already done the homework for you. Should you decide to do your own green post, please feel free to nab this button and link up with us! Already Tracie over at Stir-Fry Awesomeness has done her green deed du jour. Please head over to her place to see her gettin' all Martha Stewart what she's been up to. Deb over at Menopausal New Mom has gone green by giving new life to old items, so head over there for her practical and easy green tips.
This weekend the girls and I went GREEN by perusing a local farmer's market on Saturday morning, where we scored some homemade rhubarb and strawberry preserves, pasta, arugula, and raw honey, among other things.
(for those of you in KC, we visited the Old Overland Park Farmer's Market at 80th & Metcalf)
It's GREEN to shop local and support nearby farmers. The produce is fresher since it's bypassing the grocery store, and therefore it lasts longer. Straight to you from the farm. I was quite pleased to see it was crowded (we don't often go, but I intend to make this a habit and teach my girls as we go along) and I lingered as long as the girls would allow me. Afterwards we made a quick stop at Whole Foods (another thing I'm making a habit of)---oh how I love that store! I used the arugula in a salad with some pears, pecans, and parmesan cheese. It was delightful! I broiled salmon to go with the spinach lemon herb pasta---delish! It feels incredible to eat things that are so fresh, natural, and good for us.
Later we passed something that brought a huge smile to my face--our local Ripple Glass collection dumpster. It was overflowing! I got about 12 kinds of verklempt and had to stop for the photo op. Here in KC, our recycling crews will not take our glass from the curb due to the danger involved--which means many people are just throwing it in their garbage cans. Fortunately Ripple Glass has given us a solution. They have set up these big purple beauties everywhere (read: you have no excuse, everyone can find one that's convenient) and you can drop your empty wine beer glass bottles, jars, etc.off there.
(for those in KC, this is the location in Corinth at 83rd & Mission, but there are many others!)
Have you done something GREEN lately that warrants borrowing our awesome button? Let us know! Better yet, write your own post about it and link up!

Now I really feel the peer pressure to share my research about composting. I want to use that cool new button!!!
erin, you are the busiest (and sexiest) mother of twins out there!! can't wait to hear more on how jillian is kicking your ass. i loaned her to a friend (who is already thin) and i want the shredder back. i cuss jillian every day i work out. but my butt secretly thanks her (and lately, there's more of my butt to thank her, and that's the problem)
kudos on going green (love the little logo) and for being conscious of making the world better for your little twinnies.
ps poop video was so on the money (loved the roto-router comment). in my house, it was mooooooooommmmmmmyyyyyyyyyyyyy… WIIIIIIIIIIIIPEES!!
and i'm right there with you on the skid marks. eeewwwww.
Erin, that meal you prepared sounds like something I'd pay about $50 for at one of our nice restaurants. Hope you plan on sharing some of your "green" receipes with us.
And I'm loving the glass recycle drop off. What a fantastic idea!
Loved the link up today!
Now I am just itching to go to the farmers market! Fresh produce is so awesome.
That salad sounds really good with pears - I think I would actually eat it. I am not a big fan of salad but I am grow a couple varieties of lettuce in the garden because it is very easy to grow.
I wish we had a fancy-schmancy farmers market here. What we have is some farmers who park their trucks in a church parking lot and sell their homegrown produce very cheaply. I buy my veggies from them every chance I get but I wish we had a place to buy pasta and bread, too.
We can't recycle glass here. It really bugs me and I'm going to be looking into a solution. If I find one, I'll surely post about it.
PS I stole your cute green words idea. Hope you don't mind.
You are so inspiring. I need to get to our farmers market. They started it last year as an every other weekend thing, now its every Saturday!
You are an awesome shade of green my dear!
It is about time for our farmer's markets to start going and I can't wait I LOVE THEM>> We also do not have any recycling through our trash company which irks the snot out of me. Te recycle aluminum one has to drive nearly 30 miles to get it there. How green is that?? Loving the new button and theme, great idea..
You are inspiring! I have always recycled but there is even more to it than I realized once I started reading your posts. Everytime I recycle, I think of you. That's a good thing. :)
Gosh it makes me happy to see more people doing the "Green" :)! About two years ago, I dedicated myself to going a little greener by omitting paper towels from the usage in my home. We no longer use them and have been going strong for two solid years without them. We use cloth napkins (Which I have a gazillion of) and we swapped for those funky twirly light bulbs and have dedicated ourselves to grow as many vegetables of our own as my dirt and black thumb will allow!
I love farmer's markets and co-ops! they really do have the best produce and the best prices! Love the button!

oooh what a spectacular awesome idea!!! Way to go!! Can't wait to link up with a green post :) and man- your goodies you gathered with the girls do look yummy!
Hmm, that's nice, especially the glass thing. The good thing is that where we live we don't have to separate anything and they take nearly everything that can be recycled. And it's on trash day yo!
Here in Florida, the farmer's markets are plentiful. Most of the produce we consume comes from there.
We also have a compost patch in our back yard thanks to the insistence of our little 12 year old tree hugger.
And I am so making that salad tonight.
Hey, what a cool idea? Would you mind if I snagged the button and added it to the lollidoo diaper review? This is a company serious about going green.
lovin your button and as always I love to hear about your go green efforts!
Great idea - love the button! We actually went to a Farmers Market for the first time this Saturday down town but it was dreadful - every stall had the exact same produce - just fruit and vegetables, nothing looked fresh and it was clearly all from some central warehousing location. I so wish we had a good Market here with genuinely from the farm produce, meat and cheeses and home made breads and preserves.
We have a TON of local farmer food co-ops around here. We get the best fresh fruits and veggies!
You're welcome for the visit. And thanks to you as well! Loving this new world of blog!
And I love reading your Green posts. I myself am trying to convert!
this is awesome! in the summer we have a farmer's market on the square every saturday and we always go to pick up our veggies et al for the week!
This is awesome! but also spooky. Let me explain. I was totally mentally preparing an "earth day" post about being green and ways that I am "green". BUT... earth day came and went and yet the ideas I had remained. NOWWWW... I have a totally rad excuse to write the blog I had in mind. And so it was spooky that just last night i was mentally brainstorming how I could roll that post out soon. YOU gave me a reason. Sweeeet!
Um...farmer's market? Recycling? Using napkins over and over till they're a greasy mess? Doing laundry once a week?
Can I have a button now,please?
Well, I drive a hybrid. That's pretty green, right? ;)
Love those huge purple bins, well from a distance anyway, not sure I'd love it if they were right outside my house!
We're moving into a new house in a few weeks with our own garden and I'm really excited about all the green possibilities! Is it sad to be excited about composting?! The whole green thing is kind of fashionable so maybe I'll get away with it.
Keep waving your green flag - go girl!
Jade
Your new button is too cute!
I used a reusable bag at Sam's Club and Target today! Woot!! I'm so proud of myself, I also got a free reusable bag at a run I did on Saturday;)
I like this, Erin. I love adopting new green habits. My latest? I read an article on earth day about leftovers--the author was a big proponent of regarding those second-rate fridge finds as one big recycling project. Pizza omelette? Yum! salad with dressing? How about a make shift "pesto"?
Oh how I wish we had ripple glass here. It frustrates me to no end that no one collects the glass here. I absolutely love that you are doing this!
That is so fantastic! I love all the ways you are making the world a better place :)
You are all kinds of rocking that green Erin. I had no idea about the farmer's market in KC either. I am going to tell Marcy.
Great tips. And while it's a silly nuance, I love the look of that purple collection thing. Way cool!
I love your new button! I, myself, am researching on how to make my own compost!!! I'm so excited! I have not started on it, just yet because we are planning on getting a bigger home! I want to make sure there is enough room there to do it!! I want to be able to grow my own veggies!!!
I live a block away from Whole Foods! I buy sweet potatoes, carrots, apples, pears, and bananas for Emma. I'm making her homemade baby food!!! I also enjoy their frozen organic edamame. Yum!
Once I get my compost bin going, I'll post about it! :D
oh, and... cna you please share the recipe of that wonderful meal that you cooked? Sounds so good and Hubby loves Salmon!
You are so inspiring! I need to get my butt on this green wagon! I also need to visit the farmer's market too. Thanks for the reminder.
Darling button!
I wish we had a farmers market around here.
Plus Whole Foods is so beautiful to just look at. I kind of wish I lived there. And by "kind of," I mean "REALLYREALLYREALLY."
Did you see my post on Organically Grown today? Great organic cotton clothes and other products too.
I wish there was a Whole Foods in town. Planning a trip to the one in Baton Rouge soon...
I love LOVE the farmers market! And the new button is awesome! You really inspire me to be a better earth dweller :O)
XOXOXO
You are an awesome shade of green my dear!
