When I stepped onto the front porch with Monster, he immediately started growling. I followed his gaze across the street and saw a gaggle of teenage girls frozen, looking at me. There was a ton of toilet paper hanging from my neighbor's trees. I smiled and gave them an enthusiastic thumbs up, but I think in the darkness they still weren't sure which team I was on.
They needn't have worried. I'm not so old that I've forgotten the fun of rolling (or "T-P" ing, as it's referred to in the Midwest) a cute guy's house.
One of the girls came running towards me from across the street and as she came closer I realized she was one of our babysitters. I started snorting with laughter and told her I'd keep her secret. She grinned, said a quick, "thank you!" and hurried back to join her friends. I dashed inside to call hubs and BIL up to witness the debauchery. By the time they came out onto the front porch, the getaway car (a minivan, no less) was waiting and the girls were finishing up their handiwork. The Father Load laughed and said, "Boy, they did a terrible job," and for a split second, I think we all silently considered running over to help them.
One of the few times I ever dared to participate in something like this I was 12 years old, and my parents figured it out and made me return the next day with my friends to clean it up. I made a mental note then that it was really stupid to roll my crush's house when he lived on the same street as I, only about five houses down.
I'd like to think when it's my kids doing the rolling, I'll be driving that getaway minivan.
P.S. Stay tuned for a green post on Friday, when I'll be linking up with Deb over at Menopausal New Mom. If you'd like to do your own green post then too and link up with us, we'd love it!
P.P.S. I will be heading to Houston the weekend of 7/16 to visit Lee the Hot Flash Queen and Tracie of Stir-Fry Awesomeness. If you live nearby and would like to get together, please give Lee a holla!

When you are a 12 year old, the sky is the limit.
That's awesome, I would have joined in!
I have never done that to anyone's house. My mother was VERY controlling when I was younger and would have killed me.
I'm so jealous! I don't "know" Lee, but I so want Tracie to be my friend IRL! Yall have fun. Don't roll anybody while your away. (I think Tracie could probably talk you into it!)
hahaha! That's too funny. I've been caught tp'ing before but the people that caught us weren't very nice! :)
Toilet Papering a crush's house was so much fun. You were right to not bust them.
Have fun in Houston...I'm only slightly jealous!
That's funny! I love that you would consider driving the getaway van!
Such a cute picture! I am sad to say that I've never really tee-pd anywhere! I was too much of a goody goody and the idea of getting caught totally ruined the idea for me. lol. Wish I'd done it now. In the NW, it's very popular to wrap TP around the hose so that the evening dew makes it nearly impossible to remove. We had guys egg and tp our house one time - my dad and his friend went out to catch them and followed the guys in their car all the way to Seattle until they finally gave up. They were there the next morning to clean it up. tee...heee...
We call it t-ping, too. They were probably freaked out when you came outside. LOL
I have TPed many a house in my life...ahhh, memories. Oh, and I'll be there...wait, it's at my house!
Me and my mom went to see Eclipse on Saturday and loved it. I LOVE Jasper!
Do we get another VLOG when you visit Lee? Loved the last one.
Girl when my son was in high school all of the stores in our (one traffic light, seriously, one light!) town would make the kids show an ID if they were buying TP during homecoming week! Lol...so my son and all of his friends would come and ask me to go buy the TP!
The people in those stores must have thought I had some "digestive" problems with all the TP I was buying!
Roflmbo ummm would it make you view me differently if I tell you I have NEVER Tped a house? Not one time. Still so jealous that ya'll are going to see Lee.. wishing I could so do my bloggy get together bonfire lol. A redneck convention fo bloggers that ain't about networking for money or advertising.. Just kicking back with your rv's or pup tents in my back yard some good booze and a bonfire oh yeah and some marshmallows.
That's pretty cool.
I probably would have snuck over and scared the crap out of them.
But at least they were prepared for that.
You know, toilet paper-wise.
It's funnym the first time I TP'd someone's house, I was a little kid and went with my MOM! Then, of course, as high school cheerleaders, we regularly got the football players' houses - and our coach drove us around!
Wish I could join you at Lee's! Sounds like so much fun!
Team Jacob=Yummy! I'll take hot flesh over cold stone.
You are such a cool Mom.
Have a great trip!
We always had so much fun TPing as teens. My mom and dad were never too happy when the "favor" was returned.
Have fun!
That is the CUTEST picture of you and your girls! :) Love your outfits and that great big smile of yours!
this brings back tons of memories; I've lived through all three scenarios; the one doing the TPing, living in the house that is TPeed, and driving the getaway car. All good fun.
Too funny. :P Great pic of you and the girls. Adorable, as always.
Again, I'm jealous of you and yer peeps hanging out! One of these days I'll meet you IRL!
i couldn't bring myself to drive my girls (whom i was LEADING) in youth group over to a house where my son was at his friends house, so i did what any sane (whatever) youth leader would do… i walked them there. 1.5 miles. at night. through neighbor's yards. with a GIANT 24 pack of tp. i got two blisters from the dumb sandals i was wearing.
i did not actually roll the house (i directed from the street) but seriously wanted to.
i never rolled as a teenager.
it was fun as a middle aged old coot.
the hubs tells me over and over i must grow up.
nahhhh.
Oh gosh. TPing. I remember those days.
Erin, this is a riot! We don't TP houses in Canada that I know of, must be the snow Lol!
See you Friday for the Green Post Link Up!!!
You are adorable!! Love the picture of you and your girls!! Now back to blog post...I have had my house "TP"ed and "Forked" and it is No fun cleaning that mess up!! It is fun to think of the teenage years and maybe I am just getting old---AHHH I said it!! YUCK ;)
I love that! Those were the good 'ol days...the freedom of being a teenager. :)
I still haven't seen Eclipse. I really need to. Soon, soon...
That is SO funny that your saw your babysitter TPing someones house! Love it!
And I would consider coming to Houston to meet you if it wasn't the same weekend I'll be in Austin to celebrate my parents' wedding anniversary! Darnit!
Have a great time!!
I've never gone tping, so you can bet I'll be taking my future kids someday to do it!
I remember those days too!! So much fun!
So jealous that you are meeting Bloggy friends!! Houston is a bit far from CT...otherwise I would crash!
Oh I have fun memories of TPing. And when our house was TP'd this year by the "girls", my husband and I only laughed. I think my son thought we were going to freak out - you should have seen the relief spread over his face when we started chuckling.
I think I would have wanted to help them, too! But, they must learn themselves! Too cute!
Ally
Hahaha. Oh, the good old days of rolling! Sweet! And what a cute picture!
The only time I ever went TPing I was 14...and my DAD drove us! LOL!
Super cute pic of you and the girls! I so would've joined them for some "T-P"ing! I have definitely done that a few times since I have become an "adult". I so would've joined them!
Super jealous of you ladies getting together! I wish I had a money tree so I could come down and see you all! Ohio is too far away!
Yeah, you may be doing some drunken Texas-style TP-ing. Yes?
Darnit what a get together that's going to be!! So jealous of you guys! Will there be toilet papering involved??
(And OMG Jasper. SO HAWT!!!!!)
Oh my gosh, I TP'ed all the time!!!! I even TP'ed my own house numerous times and never once had to clean it up. I really hate myself sometimes.
I totally would have raided the bathroom cabinet for toilet paper and joined in! So much fun!
I have great memories of my dad being our "getaway driver" when I was in middle school and we went TPing a few different times. There was also this great gas station that would give you a free 12 pack of TP if you brought in a picture of a house you TPed (you had to be in the picture). The only thing was that they put those pictures up on a bulletin board, so more than one person in my town got "outed" as a TPer for trying to replace their parent's TP stash for free!
Ahhh the memories!
I have seen a few front yard trees decorated in this way and wondered what it was all about - now I finally know!
I heard from Tracie about your trip, have a wonderful time in Houston, how fabulous to all be getting together!
LOL..I love how you say "I hope it's me driving the mini van"
cause that is exactly how I feel!!!
the girls look adorable..hope the 4th was FAB!!!!!
I loved TP'ing! Before any of my sleepovers my parents would help us stock up on the TP to go at it. We would dress in dark clothes, bring backpacks...ah, the memories :)
Have fun in Houston!
Ahhh! Nothing like a good ole' TP'ing of someone's house.
I remember doing this when I was in my teens and the owner of the house letting their Rottweiler out the front door and all of us running for our lives to the bed of the getaway truck.
I remember it like it was yesterday!
Good times!s
First, I love that you have pigtails like the Twins of Terror (like it? Just decided that's my name for the adorableness) and second, I did TP a few times and scared enough people in school that our house was never hit!!
This reminds me of the time I got up and looked across the street to my neighbor's house and saw these big guys all dressed in black. They would hide every time a car passed. The getaway car was parked in front of my house and someone was inside. I just knew that it was a home invasion robbery getting ready to happen. So I called my neighbor and tried to be calm when I said, "There's some big guys getting ready to break into your house." She yelled to her husband to get the kids into the closet. I hung up the phone and called 911.
The police drove up while John bravely went out with a baseball bat to confront the big guys. Turns out, they were kids from the Mormon youth group, getting ready to tp the house next door because one of the elder's lived there and it was his birthday. Boy did I feel foolish but better safe than sorry.
T-Ping is a right of passage for girls where I grew up. I'm glad you handled it so well!
My father is a car dealer and so whenever I would have a slumber party he would bring home a big van so we could all fit in and he and my mom would drive us to all the boy's houses we wanted to T-P.
It was fantastic. My parents are awesome. I can't wait until my daughter is that age.
Aw, thats so awesome! You should have totally helped them out!
I definitely would have joined in!
You rock you naughty bitch!!!
I'd have been laughing hysterically to the point of hyperventilating!!!!!
We used to run a fucking muck in high school!!!! I was a rebel!!!
I made baby bro go to see Eclipse with me!
I only TP'd once when I was younger and my mom found out about it and all hell broke loose! So uncool. It's like a ritual that every kid must go through.
I'd like to think I'll be as cool as you...driving the getaway car for my kids someday! Although at the rate my kids are going, I may be driving that car sooner than I anticipate.
We saw Eclipse too! I was totally Team Edward for the last 2 movies but I've switched teams. Jacob was HOT in this movie...oh man, the scene where he was warming up Bella in the tent got ME all hot and bothered!
Erin, not sure what happened with that link on my blog but it is working now. Sorry about that.
I left you a comment there.
Maybe we can drive our girls together to take them TPing around the hood!
I TP'd a few times when I was a teenager visiting my mom. Mom doesn't drive, but she sure does a great job supplying TP and tips! It was so much fun. She didn't care. It was kids having fun. I think I'll be the same when my kids are older.
I also saw Eclipse. LOVED IT! I am obsessed with Twilight. My friend and I spent a good hour analyzing the movie when it was over. This was on the phone. After we both got home. With our hubby's in the background asking, "Didn't you guys just watch this movie together?" Uh....Yeah, but there is so much more to talk about! I'm team Edward all the way.
I never did that when I was younger. Mom sheltered us all the way till we turned 18. We weren't allowed to hang out with friends. :(
I never TP'd, I think I forked someone's yard though. (No, not a typo -- plastic forks throughout the front yard.)
Super duper DUPER jealous you're meeting Tracie! And that you're being met! :-D
We TPed a house when I was a teen. It was not a crush, rather someone we were irritated with. We got caught in the act by her father and had to run through the woods to evade capture by the po-po. Whew! We narrowly escaped and a couple of us had battle scars. Teehee
That picture of you are the girls is just so damn cute!
Oh...and Jacob? Shut the front door! I've never considered reliving my youth, but for that? I just might think real hard about it!
My dad was really strict, and I would have been scared to death of getting caught and him finding out. But I love that you still have the "kid" in you an even wanted to go help them out.
So awesome you are meeting up with those fabulous ladies again!!
My daughters have decided to rebel against me by being boring and well-behaved.
If anyone has a teenager that needs driving and Toilet Paper that needs transporting I'm up for the post.
What they needed it some Charmin double roll. Lots and lots of it.
I TP'd houses and I egged houses and thankfully never got caught. Our house was TP'd once, it was my brother's friends not mine so I didn't have to clean it up. I have a 17 year old now and we are just getting out of that phase and while I thought I was the cool mom before I wasn't when he got caught and had to actually perform community service because he didn't know enough to not get caught.
Ha! That's hilarious - I totally would have joined in. Well, probably not, but I would have wanted to. :-)
My parents never drove me to TP a house. Half the fun was in running away when we got caught.
We TP'd plenty back in the day.
ANd you girls have a fab time in Houston. I will be in NYC that weekend celebrating my impending bday!
Those were the days! And I can totally see you sneaking across the street to help!!
Have a grand time in Houston! No doubt the three of you will be laughing it up....don't drain the state of wine :o)
I've never tp-ed anything. These days I'm afraid a person could get arrested for it too. Such a sheltered life I lead!
I am not sure if I can count how many times we went TPing! A coming of age ritual. My mom used to drive us around too!
Have fun in Houston!
